We’ve been in Florida for almost three weeks, after kicking off 2026 in the Florida Keys, with one big goal: visiting all 50 U.S. states by the end of 2026. This is State #11, and before checking Florida off the list, there was one place everyone said we had to stay—Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.

Often ranked as one of the best RV campgrounds in Florida and even the best campground at Disney World, Fort Wilderness gets a lot of hype. But there’s a catch we’ve never been to Fort Wilderness or Disney World. And the advice we kept hearing? “Newbies should avoid this campground.”

So naturally, we booked it anyway.

We stayed in a Premium Full Hookup RV site with electric, water, sewer, and a concrete pad, so the RV part was easy. The real challenge was navigating Fort Wilderness and Disney World as first-timers.

We stayed in Campsite 225 and it was huge and private, how we like. From beautiful Oak trees with Spanish Moss, to snakes and alligators, Brazos Bend State Park did not disappoint. Despite all the rain and mosquitos, this Texas State Park Campground is worth all the hype!

A winter storm rolled through the Cascades, and I headed straight into it.

Snow fell hard on the drive in, the mountains disappeared into clouds, and I settled into camp to see how the RV would handle a few days off-grid in winter conditions. No hookups. No plowed campground. Just quiet forest, fresh snow, and the steady work of managing water, power, heat, and firewood while the weather moved through.

I spent the trip hiking snow-covered trails, building campfires, and adapting to changing mountain conditions. Not every storm turns into a blizzard—but even a few inches of snow can completely change the feel of a place.

This is winter RV camping in the Cascades—raw, quiet, and a reminder that sometimes the best trips are the ones that don’t go exactly as planned.
