JERUSALEM and TEL AVIV, Israel – Rocket fire from the Gaza Strip continued to pummel southern Israel on Wednesday, day 5 of the Israel-Hamas war.

Meanwhile, Israel says it struck at least 450 Hamas targets in Gaza in the last 24 hours, while Israeli ground forces mass on the border for an imminent invasion.

The death toll in Israel continues to climb – more than 1,200 civilians dead, 170 soldiers slain, and more than 3,500 Israelis wounded. Forty murdered Israeli babies were found among the massacred civilians, and some of those babies had been beheaded.

The Israeli city of Sderot is waking up to the aftermath of the Hamas attack.

Many were killed by Hamas gunmen as they crossed into the country in a surprise incursion.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel is at war with Palestinian militants from Hamas and in a televised address said the country's military would "take revenge for this black day".

Over 250 people were killed at the Tribe of Nova Festival in Re’im, Israel on Saturday – one of the deadliest sites of Hamas’s surprise attack on Israel. The festival took place just three miles from the Gaza Strip. Many attendees were also taken hostage and brought back to Gaza.

The unprecedented response promised by Israel in the wake of the weekend's atrocities has now well and truly clicked into gear.

Earlier, the Israeli military said it had secured the border with Gaza, which is now under the heaviest bombardment in its history

Meanwhile, residents in the Israeli city of Ashkelon - close to that border - were warned to take shelter by Hamas militants.

A salvo of rocket fire then followed, the extent of the damage is still unclear.
