Israeli has formally declared war on the Hamas militant group as the number of its citizens killed by gunmen reached 700.

The Palestinian militants are believed to have seized as many as 100 hostages during their surprise attacks in Israel. The gunmen infiltrated Jewish communities near the border with Gaza, killing and seizing civilians and soldiers.

Social media images show women and children are among those seized and taken to Gaza by the Hamas gunmen.

Israel has launched a wave of attacks in the Gaza strip in retaliation with reports that hundreds of Palestinian civilians have been killed.

Israël a multiplié, dimanche 8 octobre 2023, des frappes aériennes sur la bande de Gaza au lendemain de l’attaque du Hamas contre son territoire.

Dimanche matin, l’Etat hébreu a également été visé, au nord, par des tirs de roquettes et d’obus du Hezbollah. Le groupe militaire libanais a déclaré avoir agi en solidarité avec « la résistance palestinienne ». Les forces israéliennes ont riposté par des frappes aériennes sur le sud du Liban, là où est parti un des tirs.

Israël a reconnu une prise d’otages « significative », comprenant civils et militaires israéliens, par des membres du Hamas. Leur nombre reste indéterminé mais l’ambassade de France en Israël parle d’au moins 150 Israéliens enlevés. Parmi eux, plusieurs jeunes adultes qui participaient au Tribe of Nova festival, dans le désert près de la bande de Gaza, au moment de l’assaut du Hamas.

Un festival techno, auquel participaient des centaines de jeunes Israéliens près de la bande de Gaza, a été pris pour cible au début de l'offensive du Hamas samedi matin. Plus de 250 corps ont été retrouvés sur place. Les images des envoyés spéciaux de TF1 et LCI sur place témoignent de l'horreur qui s'est produite.

ISRAËL - Les faits se sont déroulés au premier jour de la vaste attaque du Hamas sur le territoire israélien, samedi dernier, mais ils commencent seulement à être connus ce mardi 10 octobre.

Parmi les plus de 900 morts côté israélien au quatrième jour des frappes, combats et exactions, de nombreux cadavres ont été localisés au sein du kibboutz de Beeri, qui a vécu un massacre.

Des habitants de Beeri interrogés par l’AFP ont ainsi estimé que sur les 1 200 habitants du kibboutz situé à quatre kilomètres à vol d’oiseau de la frontière avec Gaza, des dizaines ont été tués ou pris en otage. Le journal The Times of Israël fait part d’une centaine de morts.

Comment le massacre s'est-il déroulé ? Les combattants du Hamas ont tué plus de 250 personnes dans un festival de musique en Israël, samedi 7 octobre. Le Monde a analysé et vérifié les images tournées sur place pour reconstituer cette attaque éclair et meurtrière. Le nombre d’assaillants et leur armement ont rapidement submergé les forces de sécurité et de police sur place.

Selon les premiers bilans, les participants au festival représentent près d’un quart des victimes de l’invasion. Auxquelles s’ajoutent les otages enlevés par les assaillants et emmenés en territoire gazaoui.

Hamas' Head of Political and International Relations has told Sky News that no civilians have been killed by the militant group.

Doctor Basem Naim told Sky's Mark Austin that only Israeli "soldiers" were killed.

Dr Naim also said he "100% guaranteed" that any hostages taken by Hamas will be safe.

As Netanyahu convenes the security cabinet meeting he has called on citizens of Israel to unite.
