Did you know the Philippines believes in these superstitions?
Number 1: Pagpag. After attending a funeral, Filipinos don’t go straight home because they believe spirits might follow them. Many people stop by a 7-Eleven, eat at Jollibee, or simply take a short detour before finally going home.
Number 2: Sukob sa kasal. Two siblings shouldn’t marry in the same year — it’s believed to bring bad luck, jealousy, or even financial struggles.
Number 3: Bawal magwalis sa gabi! Sweeping at night is said to sweep away your good luck and blessings, so many avoid cleaning floors after sunset.
Number 4: When building stairs, Filipinos count steps saying Oro (gold), Plata (silver), Mata (death). You want your steps to end on Oro or Plata — never Mata — to avoid bad luck.
Bonus: Don’t open umbrellas indoors — it’s bad luck. Don’t cut nails at night — it shortens your life. Black cats crossing your path? Bad omen daw!
