Cagayan De Oro - Our food tour starts in the busy city of Cagayan de Oro, known locally as CDO. The market is full of delicious Filipino street food and friendly people. We’ll try a local stall famous for their humba, and get a taste of delicious Halal Maranao food. Next we’re trying the raw marinated fish (kinilaw) and tasting a powerful unforgettable soup!

Marawi City - Marawi City is home to the Maranao People, an ethnic people group native to this region of Mindanao. Their food is outstanding, some of the best food I’ve had in the Philippines - loaded with spices and fresh herbs.

Zamboanga City - From Marawi City, we made our way, continuing with our ultimate Philippines street food tour to Zamboanga City, one of the most unique and fascinating cities in the Philippines with its mix of Spanish cultures. The food is outstanding as you would expect, with a mix of local Sulu island flavors and dishes like huge crabs in Alavar sauce - which you don’t want to miss.

General Santos City - Next up we head to General Santos City, the tuna capital of the Philippines and home to Manny Pacquiao! We visited the tuna auction, which is incredible to see, tried some local balbacua, ate at Manny Pacquiao’s favorite local spot, and then had one of the greatest tuna and marlin bbq meals ever.

Davao City - It would not be a complete Philippines street food tour in Mindanao without going to Davao City, the capital and biggest city in Mindanao. Their soups are incredible and we tried a huge variety of some of the tastiest and most legendary Filipino food. Also a highlight is Davao durian, and if you love durian, welcome to durian paradise!

China claims almost all of the South China Sea, including the Second Thomas Shoal. Several Southeast Asian states have made conflicting and sometimes overlapping claims in the South China Sea. Beijing rejected a 2016 ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague that said that China's claims did not have any basis under international law. In July, China and the Philippines reached a "provisional arrangement" aimed at ending maritime confrontations near the Second Thomas Shoal, allowing Manila to resupply the atoll. The Philippines deliberately ran aground the Sierra Madre ship on the Second Tomas Shoal in 1999 in order to assert Manila's sovereignty over the area. Filipino troops are stationed on the shipwreck and require regular resupply.

I finally brought my mom to the Philippines 🇵🇭 and this was her very first time.

After a 24-hour flight with multiple medical emergencies, we went straight from the airport to Okada Manila, one of the most luxurious casino resorts in the country. From there, we headed into the province, where she experienced Filipino food, tricycles, roosters at 4AM, beach life, and everyday moments most tourists never see.

This trip had everything:
• Vegas-style casinos 🎰
• Filipino food first reactions 🍽️
• Province life & culture shock 🌴
• New Year’s Eve fireworks 🎆
• A dog chase we did NOT plan for 🐕😂

Sa wakas ay dinala ko ang aking ina sa Pilipinas 🇵🇭 at ito ang kanyang unang pagkakataon.

Pagkatapos ng 24 na oras na paglipad na may maraming medikal na emerhensiya, dumiretso kami mula sa paliparan patungong Okada Manila, isa sa mga pinaka-marangyang casino resort sa bansa. Mula roon, tumungo kami sa probinsya, kung saan naranasan niya ang pagkaing Pinoy, tricycle, tandang sa 4AM, beach life, at araw-araw na sandali na hindi nakikita ng karamihan sa mga turista.

Ang paglalakbay na ito ay nagkaroon ng lahat:
• Vegas-style na mga casino 🎰
• Mga unang reaksyon ng pagkaing Pilipino 🍽️
• Buhay sa probinsya at culture shock 🌴
• Mga paputok sa Bisperas ng Bagong Taon 🎆
• Habol ng aso HINDI namin binalak 🐕😂

Ang pagmamasid sa Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng mga mata ng aking ina ay nagpaalala sa akin kung bakit ang bansang ito ay nag-iiwan ng napakalakas na impresyon sa mga unang beses na bisita.
