Building a "forever home" in the Philippines is often a rollercoaster of emotions, but for one Canadian expat, it’s a mission of precision. In today’s video, we’re taking an exclusive tour of a massive, half-finished luxury build that is pushing the boundaries of local construction.
From five bathrooms equipped with Japanese toilets to soaring high ceilings that redefine tropical living, no expense is being spared. But the house is only half the story. After navigating the complexities of the local building scene, our host found a way to solve the biggest headache for expats: finding reliable labor.
The Accidental Entrepreneur: How Martens Home Construction Services was born out of a desire for quality.
Real Estate Strategy: Insights from an expat who owns multiple properties across the islands.

Thinking of moving to the Philippines or just curious about what it's like to live there? This video compares 1 Week vs 1 Year In the Philippines (PINOY STYLE)! The first week you get to the Philippines, life feels simple—grab your keys and go. But after 1 year in the Philippines the Pinoy style of doing things literally gets engrained in your everyday Life! You start unplugging appliances, shutting off every light, and double-checking the switches before you leave. "Sayang Kurente!" or "saving current" is the Pinoy or Filipino way. The Philippines is a poor country so people here try to be thrifty in life and save as much as possible...and after living in the Philippines for a year or more; YOU WILL TOO!
Ever live somewhere so long you start picking up the little things without even realizing it? 😅 Well... Here’s what I LEARNED living in the Philippines — and this one is all about that classic Filipino gesture we ALL know: the respectful duck-through when people are in the middle of a convo. 🙇🏽♂️
In this short, we take it waaaaay back to Week 1, when I just bulldozed through groups like a clueless foreigner 😂. Fast forward to Month 1, I’m half-committed, giving that slight lean like I kinda know the rules. But by Month 3? Man, I'm in full ninja-duck mode, practically breakdancing through the crowd just to show respect! 🤣 This is that type of content every Filipino — and every expat — will instantly relate to. "Here’s what I LEARNED living in the Philippines" isn't just about humor, it's about how these little cultural details become a part of you. The more time you spend here, the more you pick up without even trying — from small gestures to everyday habits. That ducking move is basically a rite of passage! 😂
"Did you know the Philippines secretly hate these things?"
No.1 Being Late:
Being late. Filipino time might sound funny, but if youre super late that's super annoying.
No.2 Cutting in Line:
Singit big no no, respect the pila or get the death stare from the tita's.
No.3 Disrespecting Elders:
Not saying 'Po' and 'Opo', that's like instant minus point to your manner.
No.4 Being the Target of Gossip:
No one wants to be the topic of the marites conference, better behave or else you'll be in the group chat.
Did I miss something? Let me know in the comments.! #philippines #interesting #facts #interestingfacts #filipino #didyouknow #education #belief #culture #philippineculture #marites #gossip #respect #opinion
Did you know what the Philippines could become
without corruption?
The Philippines has some of the hardest working people, yet their government is one of the most corrupt in the world. But imagine a Philippines with no corruption.
Education would improve and schools would be rebuilt. Roads would be fixed and public transport would run smoothly. Hospitals would be better and healthcare would become affordable for everyone.
Small businesses would thrive and more investors would come as they trust the system. Overseas workers would return home because the Philippines now offers better job opportunities. City projects would be completed on time and flooding would be prevented. And billions of pesos would be invested in the country’s future.

In this video I discuss what living here is really like after 4 year. In two weeks I will have ben here 4 year and I'd been on my mind to share. I started this video one way but while recording it changed and is actually better information. How I have changed and how the things that used to drive me crazy are now only slightly annoying. Give a look and let me know what you think. Feel free to leave a comment with questions.
Looking for real estate in the Philippines? Today we tour a luxury condo at Monaco Suites de Boracay. This is perfect for expats or investors looking for rental income in Boracay.
This isn't your average island rental. We’re taking you inside a massive, nearly 1,600 sq. ft. two-story luxury condo that has been completely gutted and renovated to the highest American standards.
What makes this place insane:
The Views: A 360-degree rooftop view of the entire island, plus first-floor vistas overlooking the crystal clear ocean and the kite surfers catching air on the beach below.
The Reno: Increased ceiling heights (rare for the island!), all-new electrical, and high-end finishes throughout.
The Comfort: Fully furnished with top-tier pieces and—the ultimate Philippines luxury—boiling hot water in every single tap.
The American owner is officially ready to sell, and he wanted me to give you guys the first look. I’m keeping the price a secret until the end of the video—wait until you see the level of detail here before you try to guess the tag. This is luxury living in paradise, redefined.
In this video:
Exploring the "other" side of Boracay's tourist attractions.
Full walkthrough of the Monaco Suites private community.
