KHON KAEN, THAILAND (ขอนแก่น) - Today we’re in Khon Kaen (ขอนแก่น), northeastern Thailand to uncover Thailand’s hidden dish of Isaan; Au pla (Herbal freshwater fish soup อ๋อปลา). It’s a traditional dish of a medley of herbs with freshwater fish and seasoned with a splash of fermented fish sauce.

We had some grilled chicken and soup just to get the mouth juices watering before the bigger meal!

She’s a writer, historian and Chef who promotes traditional and often times long lost Isaan foods, and she’s been promoting Au pla (Herbal freshwater fish soup อ๋อปลา) for years. It was an absolutely sensational dish and meal experience, with all the other dishes she prepared as well. I can say it was one of the best Isaan meals I’ve ever had.

Grüezi! For my golden birthday this year, I decided to head back to Switzerland to do a do-over of my messy solo trip 2 years ago. It was my first time in Switzerland and my first international solo trip, and everything went wrong...I got really frustrated while editing that vlog lol and then I never uploaded it 😵‍💫 But this year, equipped with a fully developed frontal lobe and a stronger handle on public transportation, I decided to head back to Switzerland for my 26th birthday to create the ~perfect~ version of my last trip. After crossing the Seven Mile Bridge and settling into one of the best campsites we've had in the Keys, we walk over to Hogfish Bar & Grill before heading into Key West for the Lobsterfest kickoff. But the celebration—and Key West itself—turn out to be a little different from what we expected.

Between summer storms, mojitos at Mallory Square, Duval Street, First Flight Island Restaurant & Brewery, Cuban coffee, the famous Southernmost Point and some surprisingly quiet streets, we get to experience another side of Key West during the slow season.
