Did you know the Philippine islands have a hidden meaning?
These are Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Let’s start with Luzon. Its name comes from “lusong,” a wooden rice mortar tied to the island’s rice culture. Spanish records later called the locals “Luçon,” and over time, that became Luzon.
Moving on to Visayas—the name is believed to trace back to the Sri Vijaya Empire, a powerful kingdom in Southeast Asia. Some historians suggest that ‘Vijaya’ evolved into ‘Bisaya,’ which later became Visayas.
Finally, Mindanao. The name comes from the Maguindanao people. The word is a combination of “Magin,” meaning “people,” and “danaw,” meaning “lake.” So, Mindanao simply translates to “people of the lake.”

Navigating the polite 'yield to others' culture in the US versus the assertive 'first come, first serve' and sometimes chaotic elevator etiquette in the Philippines. An amusing culture clash. #CultureShock #USAVSPH #Etiquette #Travel #Adaptation

This short tells a story about what would happen if the Philippines flipped their flag, and got every country they want. They would start with taking Vietnam, who would be no match for their force. After taking them, they would move in to attack Japan, who would have a strong army, but still wouldn't be enough. North and South Korea would be their next targets, but would end up having a hard battle, and eventually winning. China would have enough, and would try to end them, but that would backfire, resulting in the Philippines taking the entire China, becoming the biggest Asian superpower in the world.

I lost $850,000 in just three years living in the Philippines. This is my complete, unfiltered story of what went wrong - the failed investments, the girlfriend scam, the business fraud, and how I'm rebuilding at 66 years old.

I'm Marcus, 72 years old, and this is the story nobody tells you about retiring to the Philippines.
In 2019, at age 58, I sold my successful HVAC business in Houston, Texas and moved to Manila with $460,000 in savings and $3,500/month in rental income. I thought I was retiring early to live my dream. Three years later, I'd lost nearly everything.

🔴 What I Lost:
$850,000 total (investments, living expenses, opportunity costs)
Failed condo flip: -$23,000
Pre-selling condo scam: -$320,000 (locked/lost)
Land purchase for girlfriend: -$128,000
Business partnership fraud: -$100,000
Excessive living expenses: -$216,000

🎯 Who Should Watch This:
✓ Anyone considering retiring to the Philippines
✓ Expats thinking about property investment in Southeast Asia
✓ People in relationships with foreign nationals
✓ Retirees with $200K-$500K looking to stretch retirement funds
✓ Anyone interested in international real estate investing

You've successfully invested in the Philippines (share your approach!)

⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This is my personal story and experience. Not all Philippines investments fail. Many people successfully retire and invest there. But you MUST understand the risks, laws, and cultural differences. This video is educational, not financial advice.
