• What about traveling there as a woman?
My advice applies to both men and women (except for the bit about clergy, obviously). Men and women will have to give the same amount of attention to constructing their backstory, including their marital status, because people will ask either way. Women went on pilgrimages. While most women (and men) worked on farms, women in towns did engage in economic activities like shopkeeping and weaving. It was rare for a woman to work as a long-distance merchant, but it did happen, typically as a widow whose husband had been a merchant.

• But what about a woman traveling alone?
When I said, "Travel in a group, don't travel alone," I meant it. Solo travel is not advised, regardless of gender. Even the medieval people themselves traveled in groups.


CORRECTIONS

• I said William of Rubruck was from the Netherlands but he was actually Flemish. Apologies to my Flemish viewers.
• In the anecdote where William of Rubruck met the Buddhist monks, he was confused at first but he did figure out in the course of talking to them that they were not Christian. I misremembered the passage. So I'd say Buddhists would probably just be understood as pagans in medieval Europe.
• The magic I discuss in the video is known as natural magic. There was also another form of magic I didn't talk about where you perform occult rituals to persuade demons to do things for you. That's known as demonic magic.

If driving the longest road in the world wasn’t enough, give yourselves 100 days to build a 4x4 motorhome capable of such a task.

Sunrise Express Izumo & Seto (寝台特急サンライズ出雲瀬戸号) is Japan's only overnight sleeper train which runs everyday (日本で唯一の毎日運行の夜行列車). Today, I book the cheapest private room called “Solo” (最安の個室 B寝台個室ソロ) from Tokyo Station to Izumoshi Station (東京駅から出雲市駅). It's a 950km (590 miles) trip that takes about 12 hours. When booking a Solo room, even if you are a foreign tourist with a JR pass, you will need to go to the ticket office and pay an additional sleeper private room fee in advance. In addition, I recommend you reserve a seat on the right side. This is because you can see other trains and a nice view of Lake Shinji. When you arrive in Izumo, it's a good idea to visit the famous Izumo Taisha Shrine (officially Izumo Oyashiro 出雲大社 いずもおおやしろ) and eat the local specialty, Wariko Soba noodles (割子蕎麦).

☆★☆This is what it was actually like!☆★☆
---12 hour trip on the Sunrise Express (Solo Room)---
* So many security cameras at Tokyo Station.
* Taking a warm shower on the train while it's snowing outside was an unusual experience.
* If you have 12 hours, you can fly to the United States, but I felt that the slow journey itself was the real pleasure of traveling by train.
* The bed was fully flat and the mattress was soft so I didn't get tired at all.
* I recommend booking a seat on the right side of the train so you can see the other trains and the beautiful view of Lake Shinji.
* Just in case, I bought a lucky charm for marriage at Izumo Taisha Shrine. (For myself)
* Izumo City's soba noodle was is good because you can enjoy various flavors at once.

A challenge to visit every country in the world... "Japan" is the "1st" country that I visited out of all the 196 counties in the world.

2 1/2 cups flour
2 tbs baking powder
2 tbs sugar
1 tsp salt

Wet:
1 stick melted butter
2 cups milk
2 eggs
~ Combine dry ingredients and store in an airtight container. Combine wet ingredients and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When you're ready to make the pancakes, add the wet ingredients to the dry and mix until just combined. Don't over mix, lumps are okay :) Cook as usual and enjoy!

*Who are we?*
We’re Victoria & Craig, a full-time travel couple currently living the RV lifestyle! In 2021, we realized life was too short to wait to chase our dreams, so we purchased a used fifth wheel camper and completely renovated it. After selling our house in Florida, we set off on our journey as full-time RVers. Full time RV living has taken us across the United States, Baja Mexico, and Canada, where we’ve fallen in love with boondocking in stunning locations and living an epic adventure travel lifestyle. In 2023, we upgraded to a brand new Brinkley RV Model Z 3100. We spent a year taking our Brinkley to amazing places like Colorado and even all the way to Alaska! But, we starting itching for a project. So, in the fall of 2024, we bought a $5,500 vintage class C off Facebook marketplace and completely renovated it from the ground up to take it on an awesome summer road trip. So, what's next? After sitting for months, our new Pelicamper finally hits the road for its first true camping trip. We leave South Florida behind and head north along Florida's Gulf Coast before crossing to the beautiful First Coast.
