"Machine Gun" is an electrifying instrumental funk track by The Commodores, released in 1974 as part of their debut album "Machine Gun." This high-energy piece showcases the band's exceptional musicianship and their ability to create a powerful, groove-driven sound.
The song opens with a distinctive, rapid-fire synthesizer riff that mimics the sound of a machine gun, giving the track its title. This catchy, repeating motif serves as the backbone of the entire piece, creating an instantly recognizable hook.
Driven by a tight, punchy rhythm section, "Machine Gun" features a pulsating bassline and crisp, funky drum patterns that establish an irresistible groove. The interplay between the bass and drums forms the foundation for the song's infectious dance floor appeal.
Throughout the track, various instruments take turns in the spotlight. Lionel Richie's saxophone solos add a layer of soulful melody, while the electric guitar riffs and wah-wah effects contribute to the song's funky texture. The use of synthesizers, still relatively new in popular music at the time, gives the track a futuristic edge that was cutting-edge for its era.
"Machine Gun" became The Commodores' breakthrough hit, reaching the top ten on both the R&B and pop charts. It established the band as a force to be reckoned with in the funk and R&B scene of the 1970s, showcasing their instrumental prowess before they became known for their ballads and slower jams.
The track's high-energy vibe and lack of lyrics made it a popular choice for dance clubs and radio stations alike. Its influence extends beyond its time, with the distinctive synthesizer riff being sampled and referenced in numerous hip-hop and electronic dance tracks in subsequent decades.
"Machine Gun" remains a classic example of 70s funk instrumentation and arrangement, demonstrating The Commodores' ability to create a compelling, dance-inducing track without the need for vocals.

Did rice really work to save a device from a spill? Well, let's see if this laptop was saved after a 7-year-old poured water directly on the keyboard. This customer brought their laptop into my shop because they said water, or Pepto-Bismol, was dumped on their laptop. He immediately dried it out and filled the laptop with rice. But this laptop was dead, so I put Travis-ty on the case, and he started the disassembly process to see what the damage was. We could see that it was mostly clear except for these major corrosion areas. We cleaned these areas with 91 percent isopropyl alcohol and cleaned the board in the ultrasonic cleaner.

Now that it was clean and dry, did it work? NO! The motherboard had a short and still did not power on. After some testing, I found that there was a shorted MOSFET on the GPU core. So we replaced that and tested again. Excellent, now that the laptop turned on and worked, we needed to replace the keyboard.

In All about the UK for Kids, you will learn about the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. When people mention the UK, they are not talking about a country but about the countries that are part of it! Those four countries are England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. And no, Northern Ireland is not the same as Ireland. Those are two separate countries, and Ireland is not part of the UK.

The official name of this collection of countries is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. That's because Great Britain constitutes England, Scotland, and Wales.
The largest country by both area and population is England. Believe it or not, even though Northern Ireland is an entire country, fewer people live there than in London, England! London is home to nearly 9 million people, while Northern Ireland in its entirely is home to about 1.8 million people.

There are some really interesting places to visit throughout the UK. One of them is Loch Ness in Scotland. The word "loch" means lake, so the loch ness monster is the monster of Lake Ness. Another fascinating place is the tower of Big Ben. What you may not know is that the actual name of Big Ben is Great Bell. And Big Ben doesn't refer to the tower but to the bell itself. Let's see what else you can learn!

We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about George Washington Carver! If you want even more information, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

Joe Bugner vs James Tillis in a ten round non-title heavyweight bout

Date: September 15, 1986

Venue: Sydney Entertainment Centre, Sydney

Bugner stance: orthodox

Tillis stance: orthodox

Joe Bugner's UK-based comeback fizzled out when he lost a somewhat controversial split decision to Stefan Tangstad in Copenhagen. As Bugner had been slightly fortunate to win his previous fight against Anders Eklund, and had deservedly lost on points to Marvis Frazier, it was clear he had few boxing opportunities if he stayed in Britain. Bugner moved to Australia, and after less than 18 months out of the ring, it was time for his latest comeback at the age of 36.

James Tillis had challenged for the WBA title five years earlier, losing on points to Mike Weaver. His best wins were a seventh round stoppage of Ron Stander, and a points win over Earnie Shavers. Despite losing to all the other big names he faced, there were signs of improvement in 1986. His first bout of the year was against unbeaten Olympic champion Tyrell Biggs, and he gave a spirited effort while losing on points. In his next fight, he lost a close decision to Mike Tyson that some observers felt he won. Tillis then had two routine wins over journeymen before making the trip to Australia.

For an in depth look at their respective records, visit:

Joe Bugner - https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/000924

James Tillis - https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/803
