Sky News Australia host Sharri Markson says the most “horrific news imaginable” has emerged from the ongoing war between Israel and the Hamas terrorists.

According to Ms Markson, the Israeli Defence Force has discovered the bodies of 40 babies and young children.

“They'd been killed – some even beheaded,” she said.

“The shocking sight of beheaded young children with their heads cut off meant that the soldiers who found them and recovered their bodies were seen crying and comforting each other.

“There truly are no words to capture the evil, the cruelty that would lead these barbarians to take the lives of innocent tiny, beautiful babies.

“It is so evil that it's beyond comprehension, beyond belief.”

Israeli rescue service ZAKA said more than 100 bodies were recovered from Be'eri kibbutz, a small farming community that was the scene of a bloody standoff during Hamas’ attack against Israel.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan condemned Israel's response to Hamas' attack by bombing cities in Gaza -- which has destroyed infrastructure, cut off humanitarian supplies and killed civilians.

"Managing a conflict using every sort of embarrassing method - is not a war, it is a massacre," he said.

Speaking to his ruling AK Party in parliament, Erdogan said Israel's actions were the "reflex of an organization and not a state," adding that it would be treated as such if those actions continued.

Turkey, which has backed Palestinians in the past and hosted members of Hamas, has been working to mend its ties with Israel after years of animosity. Unlike the European Union and the United States, Ankara does not consider Hamas a terrorist organization.

Meanwhile, Jordan's King Abdullah said that no peace was possible in the Middle East without the emergence of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.

Hamas, the Islamist militant group, has released footage of what it claims to be a dawn raid on an Israeli military compound.

Binyamin Netanyahu has declared Israel is “at war” after Hamas militants launched a surprise attack from Gaza during a Jewish holiday, with thousands of rockets and armed fighters sent across the border to Israel.

The Israeli prime minister ordered the army to retaliate against the group as he mobilised reserve forces. He vowed that “the enemy will pay a price he has never known”. The Israeli military has already launched airstrikes on targets in Gaza, with witnesses reporting hearing heavy explosions.

An Israeli mother who evaded capture with her two young children recalled being led by Hamas to Gaza to the sound of blaring gunshots and seeing everything was “destroyed and covered in blood” before she could escape.

Terrorists broke into Avital Aldjem’s home and dragged her out from the closet where she was hidden before forcing her and her two children — Negev, 4, and baby Eshel, just four months — to begin walking with them toward Gaza.

“They took us from house to house, the whole time there were gunshots along the way,” Aldjem told i24news reporter Natasha Raquel Kirtchuk Gutman said in Hebrew.

“Puddles of blood everywhere.”

“They were burning the homes. Cars were on fire. Then they took me and my kids outside and took us to the fence that surrounds the Kibbutz. There was a breach in the fence, and they began to walk us toward Gaza,” she said.

Through tears, the mother recalled the terrorists constantly telling them “Quick, quick,” and gunshots continued to be fired off the entire walk.
