The Hamas attack on Israel has prompted an intense military retaliation with dozens of Israeli warplanes striking Gaza.

More than 400 Palestinians are reported to have been killed and more than 2,000 have been injured.

Meanwhile, a British man who was serving in the Israeli army was killed in an attack by Hamas militants.

A North Shore mother and daughter are among those missing in Israel following this weekend's surprise attack by Hamas. Family and friends fear they were taken hostage in Gaza. CBS 2's Charlie De Mar spoke to a family rabbi.

Palestinian families in different areas in Gaza started fleeing their homes on Saturday morning (October 7) in fear of Israeli retaliation after the massive attack on Israel launched from the strip.

Terrorist group Hamas launched the biggest attack on Israel in years in a surprise assault that combined gunmen crossing the border with a heavy barrage of rockets from the Gaza Strip.

Israeli military had responded with air strikes into Gaza, where witnesses reported hearing heavy explosions and multiple dead being carried into hospitals.
