Vivian Bearing, a brilliant and uncompromising English professor played by Dame Emma Thompson, faces a life-altering diagnosis of terminal ovarian cancer. As she endures grueling treatments and reflects on the pivotal moments of her life, Vivian is observed by a small but strikingly different group of caregivers: Dr. Jason Posner, a young doctor who sees the world purely through clinical logic; Susie Monahan, a compassionate nurse whose empathy makes her the only one to truly understand Vivian’s suffering; and Dr. Harvey Kelekian, the pragmatic head physician, focused solely on results. Against this backdrop of medicine and mortality, Vivian’s sharp intellect and fierce independence collide with the realities of her illness, setting the stage for a profound exploration of life, death, and human connection.
