Cannibal Cherries, Dragonfruits, and the Price of Sweetness

As I was eating cherries today, my mind wandered. Sweetness in people feels similar, soft and harmless, just like fruit. But fruit ripens toward rot, and sweetness carries its own price. Some desires bite back. We reach for beauty hoping it will soothe us, fill us, make us whole. Yet beautiful things can devour as easily as they delight. Desire is a creature with its own appetite. The danger is forgetting that what we want hungers too. And when sweetness meets sweetness, both begin to eat.
