Fishing activity at Frazergunj Fishing Harbour
Frazerganj is a thriving fishing harbour where colourful boats in red, orange and yellow dock for repair and rest. Approximately 3 hours drive from Kolkata, Frazerganj is one of the most beautiful beaches in eastern India. <br /><br />Popularly known for its whitish silver sand, this is a beautiful and pristine beach with lots of tranquility and harmony in its atmosphere. Not much exploited, it is still spotless and holds the charms of an unspoilt arena of joy and exquisiteness. Located at one end of Sunderbans, this beach was actually discovered by then Lt-Governor of Bengal Andrew Frazer, who also built a bungalow at Narayanitala, now rechristened as 'Frazerganj' after its founder.<br /><br />Apart from being known for its exquisite beauty, Frazerganj Beach is also known for being the seasonal choice of umpteen exotic and migratory birds. The place is also a major center of Pisciculture in the country. In a radius of 5 km from Frazerganj, there are so many other beautiful places, like Bakkhali, Windmills, Jambudeep and temple of Banabibi that you will not be bored here at all.<br /><br /><br />(BENFISH) the West Bengal State Fishermen's Cooperative Federation Ltd. was established and registered under the West Bengal Cooperative Acts & Rules in the year 1978 as the Apex body of the Fishermen's Cooperatives in the State bearing its registered No.15(Cal)/78 having its membership of 7 nos. with paid up share capital of Rs.51,000.00 with the objectives of augmenting fish production by introducing scientific method of pisciculture and for upliftment of the socio-economic condition of the poor fishermen by introducing modern crafts & gears. It is a state level fishermen's cooperative being managed by a Board of directors. Sri Kiranmay Nanda,, Minister-in-charge of Fisheries Department, Govt. of West Bengal. Is it's Chairman. By dint of their efficient management, it has been possible to increase the fish production as well as to improve the socio-economic condition of the poor fishermen to a considerable extent.
