Outlaw country singer Wayne Mills shot and killed in Nashville bar
Outlaw country singer, Wayne Mills, leader of the Wayne Mills Band, was shot to death early Saturday morning at the Pit and Barrel in Nashville, Tennessee, by the bar's owner, Chris Ferrell.

The 44-year-old musician was in the bar after hours with several other people. At some time before 5 a.m., he began smoking a cigarette in a non-smoking area in the honky-tonk, or country music bar. Ferrell, also 44, confronted him about the smoking and an argument broke out.

According to reports, the others in the bar went outside after the men started fighting. They later heard a gunshots fired and the police were called. Mills was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Ferrell had a valid handgun permit, according to a report by the Associated Press. He claims to have shot Mills in self-defense, though comments left on the Central Precinct Metro Nashville PD Facebook page allege Mills was unarmed and Ferrell fired three shots.

Both Ferrell and Mills have had prior arrests, though neither for violent crimes. Ferrell was twice arrested for driving on a suspended license and Mills was charged with driving under the influence and reckless endangerment.

The country singer hailed from Arab, Alabama and leaves behind a wife and son. His band's official website described him as 'one that is a stiff-necked, country troubadour with an affinity for honky-tonks and possessing a style of rustic simplicity.'

An investigation is being made into Ferrell's claims of self-defense, though he has not be charged with any crime as of this publishing.

--------------------------------------------------------

TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
